In the laser resonator optimization, the two critical performance indices, the quality factor Q factor and mode volume of a resonator, are treated as the objective functions in the optimization.
In the optical biosensor optimization, the Q factor and energy density of the specified domain are treated as the objective functions.
The sensitivity of the objective function is derived based on the adjoint variable method.
Based on these formulations, an optimization algorithm is constructed using the method of moving asymptotes MMA.
We provide numerical examples to illustrate the validity and utility of the proposed methodology.
Binding of anti--Galactosidase on the microsphere surface was evaluated by the absorbance measurement of wavelength 280 nm.
The manufactured single microsphere probe was excited at the total internal reflection excitation configuration by a laser 532 nm using the object lens ×100 and detected an emission spectrum corresponding to WGM.
We measured a variation of WGM spectra depending on the density of enzyme solution -Galactosidase.

The wavelength selective devices are ones of key devices of them.
We have already proposed a compact structure with a wavelength selective function: the structure using a gap plasmon waveguide with stub.
We have fabricated a gap plasmonic waveguide with two stubs in a silver thin film on a glass substrate by using the focused ion beam method.
The width of the gap is around 150 nm.
The streak of the gap plasmon propagating along the waveguide has been observed experimentally when the gap plasmon mode is excited.
The transmittance spectra of the gap plasmon have clearly indicated that the structure works as wavelength selective devices and agreed well with those obtained by the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method.
We have presented the numerical results of the transmittance spectra for these structures calculated by using the finite-difference time-domain method.
The numerical results have clearly indicated that all structures of a sub-micron size work properly as wavelength selective devices.
The advantage of a stub type of waveguide is on easiness in fabricating, while that for a Fabry-Perot type of waveguide is to lead to making the size decrease considerably and relatively high Q-factor.

In the laser resonator optimization, the two critical performance indices, the quality factor Q factor and mode volume of a resonator, are treated as the objective functions in the optimization.
In the optical biosensor optimization, the Q factor and energy density of the specified domain are treated as the objective functions.
The sensitivity of the objective function is derived based on the adjoint variable method.
Based on these formulations, an optimization algorithm is constructed using the method of moving asymptotes MMA.
We provide numerical examples to illustrate the validity and utility of the proposed methodology.
Binding of anti--Galactosidase on the microsphere surface was evaluated by the absorbance measurement of wavelength 280 nm.
The manufactured single microsphere probe was excited at the total internal reflection excitation configuration by a laser 532 nm using the object lens ×100 and detected an emission spectrum corresponding to WGM.
We measured a variation of WGM spectra depending on the density of enzyme solution -Galactosidase.

The wavelength selective devices are ones of key devices of them.
We have already proposed a compact structure with a wavelength selective function: the structure using a gap plasmon waveguide with stub.
We have fabricated a gap スロット導波路リング共振器変調器 waveguide with two stubs in a silver thin film on a glass substrate by using the focused ion beam method.
The width of the gap is around 150 nm.
The streak of the gap plasmon propagating along the waveguide has been observed experimentally when the gap plasmon mode is excited.
The transmittance spectra of the gap plasmon have clearly indicated that the structure works as wavelength selective devices and agreed well with those obtained by the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method.
We have presented the numerical results of the transmittance spectra for these structures calculated by using the finite-difference time-domain method.
The numerical results have clearly indicated that all structures of a sub-micron size work properly as wavelength selective devices.
